Mark Hugh Sam joined Capital Canada Limited as a Partner in October 2009. Prior to joining Capital Canada, Mr. Hugh Sam was a partner and Director of Research at a Chicago-based hedge fund. He has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry with extensive experience in equity research and a background in proxy battles, management buyouts, public and private financings.

Mr. Hugh Sam was instrumental in developing a U.S. hedge fund’s growth which started from $16M in 2005 to $300M, including raising $30M from Canadian institutions. He also conducted a successful proxy fight and gained control of a NASDAQ publicly traded company, and served as a director. Mr. Hugh Sam has a history of identifying small growing companies and major technological trends.

His career has involved experience as an analyst where he published equity research and analysis for such sectors as consumer companies as well as various technology and telecom companies. He has been widely quoted in the media including NY Times, Washington Post, CNBC, Business Week, ABC Nightly News, as well as Globe and Mail, CNET, Financial Post, CTV among several other Canadian broadcasters, newspapers and magazines.

Mark Hugh Sam began his career with Ernst and Young and is member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA). He graduated from McGill University and the Schulich School of Business at York University (MBA) and is a member of the CFA Institute (CFA).
