George Hartman joined Capital Canada Limited in March 2008 after a lengthy and successful career as a top ranked merchandising analyst and as an investment banker.
Mr. Hartman began his career with Pitfield Mackay Ross (now RBC). In 1972, George founded Brown, Baldwin, Nisken (BBN) Institutional, a highly successful investment brokerage boutique which was ultimately acquired by James Capel (London, England) the investment arm of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank in 1987. Over time Mr. Hartman served as Vice-Chairman, President a member of the three person Executive Committee of BBN and its successor firms.
In the past, Mr. Hartman has secured investment banking assignments with a large number of Canadian and international retailers. Among the clients Mr. Hartman has worked with on mergers and acquisitions, and financings include Sears Canada, Hudson’s Bay Company, Wal-Mart, Peoples Jewellers, Future Shop, Grafton Group, Dylex, Consumers Distributing, Revelstoke, Forzani Group, Les Boutiques San Francisco, and other public and private companies.
Mr. Hartman holds a B.A. (Honours) from the University of Toronto, and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University.
